Thanks to all who kindly replied to my query. I am completely
convinced that it can't be done.

As I said to Dick Dievendorff, I was hoping to save a few hundred
gram-centimeters of work per day, maybe even more on a busy day. Now
that hope is gone, and I have expended even more by writing the
original query and this email; that's energy I'll never get back. Such
is life.
