Larry,

All you *need* is the stock 2.7 kHz roofing filter.  If you are thinking 
of adding the subRX in the future, get the 8 pole 2.8 filter so you 
don't have to bother with offsets.  You may want to add additional 
filters for CW and data modes, but unless you are using those modes for 
DX pileups or contests you can skip that.  The DSP filtering is fine for 
more casual operation.

If you want 100 watts, add the KPA3,
If you want diversity reception, you will want the KRX3 and matched filters
If you will be working with transverters (other possible bands) add the 
KXV3A
If you want the internal 2 meter transverter, add the K144XV
If you are using antennas that need a tuner, add the KAT3.

I notice you are in Raleigh, so if you want to touch and feel a K3, come 
up to Wake Forest and you can have a session with mine.
