[Elecraft] . K3 dvr playback distortion

Of course you're right Don. More than three years ago I was amongst the
first to install a KDVR3 and Lyle too explained the signal paths clearly at
the time. I'm simply reporting my experience to try to put things into
perspective: when I record a station over the air and play it back over the
air, it usually provokes comments from listeners about how well the DVR
reproduces the original. This is despite my RX and TX EQ settings (the
former minimal, the latter not). Naturally it isn't *exactly* the same as
the original but somehow listeners seem to think it gets very near.
Certainly no-one has ever reported to me distortion that was not on the
original. I know of no other rig on the market that does it better - in fact
most cannot do it all.
73 to all,
Geoff

Geoff and all,
Currently, there is no way to bypass the equalization for the DVR.
When you record someone's off-the-air signal, it passes through your RX
EQ settings, and then when you play it back, it goes through your TX EQ
settings - so the audio gets hit with the "double whammy" of both RX EQ
and TX EQ in a situation where you do not want any equalization at all.
