YES!!!! That is a fantastic solution. I never thought of looking for a cable
like that, but that would do exactly what I need. 

Even better, I found one locally at Microcenter - they call it a "port
saver" - 1' long. That will work wonderfully.

Sometimes we need to think outside the box - the pre-made cable is that much
less work to boot, just the TRRS plug and I'm done.
