Hi Tom,
Not quite sure if you are referring to Menu item TXG VCE -3.0
to +3.0. The way I adjust it is to key up the CW power on your antenna
tuner while keeping it dipped, and note the reading. Switch to SSB,
turn Processor CMP back to Zero and talk into the mic until you get 5
bars of ALC. Then switch your antenna tuner to PEAK reading to see
where you kick up to. The goal is to keep the peak SSB value EQUAL to
the CW value. You can add CMP to give your audio more punch but do not
exceed 10 bars. Re check the ratio of SSB PEAK to CW. Most of the time
SSB will be higher. Decrease VCE down to -3.0 max or whatever it takes
to even it out. You DON'T want a lot of overshoot. That will give
you distortion products by over driving the AMP. You also will
identify if your transceiver is one of those that give nasty SPIKES and
the power jumps up to 100 watts or more during key up no matter what
your power setting is. That is very bad for your AMP especially if it's
a solid state one.
73 and I hope this helps.
