[Elecraft] k2 rs232 to usb

Be careful.  The DB9 socket on the back of the K2 is ***** NOT ***** RS232.
 It's proprietary.  Pins 1, 4, 6,7,8 are used for proprietary purposes and
it's possible you can ***** SMOKE ***** your computer or K2.  You *****
MUST ***** use the method in your manual or its equivalent to split off
 ***** ONLY ***** 2, 3, 5 for RS232 use.   ***** YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED *****

Some people have gone so far to plug up one hole in the socket so a regular
DB9 male plug simply can't be inserted accidentally. Some years ago, when
the KIO2 was new, there was a regular smoke-em parade of those who had
ignored the admonishment and burned something up.  Some folks did it two or
three times.

In WWII the military solved this ghastly problem by having a gazillion
multi-pin plug and socket layouts, so you could ONLY plug something in
where it actually matched up wire for wire.  If your dog could get the plug
in on his own it was right.  No doubt saved a few lives.
