Jack: there is a K3 Utility Help troubleshooting page on MCU load failures. It has a step by step recovery procedure. Joe has it right, you will need to remove the microHAM router from the chain for the recovery.

I use ABCD switches to connect one KUSB to a variety of Elecraft products and another to connect a K3 to various interface products for testing.
