I would say it depends on what you want to do with your radio. If you
like the idea of a traditional radio format, where you hook cables and
interfaces (like the microham) up to the box, you will have more fun
with the KX3. The KX3 is obviously a lot more mobile.
On the other hand, if you like the idea of doing things in software
(e.g. VAC connections to FLDIGI, etc.) then you will have a good time
with the Flex. The CW issues are fixed for normal operations (<35WPM
non-QSK) and it's a lot of fun to work DX in split pile up. If you are a
computer geek and a visual person - this is the radio.
Personally, I enjoy experimenting with the new genre of SDR radios
(Flex) but I respect the tried and true format for certain situations.
(e.g. outfitting a HF contest station) Luckily, I think the resale value
for either radio is pretty good. So the risk buying either one is small
because if you don't like it, you can sell it without loosing a lot of
money.
