I can attest to the ruggedness of the IC-730(100 watt model). I have run one
mobile for over
20 years and it has done nothing but work. The only glitch has been the rcvr
preamp relay that has to be cleaned every so often. The IC-730S could be a
great way to get
started. Add the KXPA100 when it is ready for 100 watts and then the KX3
later.
BTW, I have made many SSB and cw contacts at 10 watts or less with my K2 and
simple wire
antennas. And recently been having a blast with my new KX1 at 4 watts or
less.
Welcome to the hobby. It's a boat load of fun.
