The K3 is VERY flexible with respect to headphones and mics.  It 
provides the bias you need at both the front panel (8-pin) and rear 
panel (1/8-in) mic connectors. All you have to do is go into the setup 
menu and choose the mic connector you want to use and turn on the bias.  
The K3 also has an excellent graphic equalizer that can make virtually 
any decent mic sound great, whether your definition of great is full ham 
response for rag chewing or narrow, punchy response for maximum talk 
power.  Note that TX and RX response are limited by the crystal filter 
used for TX and the IF response used for RX.
