I've been a fan of DeoxIT D5 Power Booster for several years and can't say
enough good things about it.
I bought a used MFJ 962D manual tuner and observed that the variable
inductor was very noisy. I took it apart and cleaned the coil and roller
with alcohol, which helped a little, but still was noisy. After trying
several electrical store products, someone recommended DeoxIT, and I bought
a spray can. I cleaned the inductor and roller with the DeoxIT and
literally bathed the coil with it, letting the drippings fall on a cloth I
placed under the coil. Then I let it air dry, and put the tuner back
together. The tuner was much quieter and I was able to hot tune my radio
with the inductor tuning as quiet as one of the capacitors. The best part
is, it stays clean. The last time I cleaned it was over a year ago, and
it's just now starting to get a little noisy, so I need to clean it again.
I also had a problem with a network cable making bad contact, and a had
friend, who also likes DeoxIT, suggested I spray the contacts on the CAT 5
connector. I did it, and it worked great there too. I've never used the
"Gold" product, but have seen it. BTW some of the Fry's stores carry
DeoxIT.
