Waaaay back (mid 20th century) the way to get an accurate frequency set with
a stable VFO that was too hard to make up a dial for was to build a
frequency correction graph. The "dial" reading goes on one axis and the
frequency goes on the other. Put a dot at the intercept for each measured
frequency and dial reading. Connect the dots and you have a graph that will
allow you to accurately dial in any frequency you want. By choosing the
right scales on the graph and you can make it as accurate as your oscillator
is stable and your standard is accurate.

It's not something a contester would want to deal with, but for setting up
on a "net" frequency or looking for a station reported on the 'net, it is
quick and very cheap.
