If you work 40, 80, or 160M, diversity reception with a dedicated RX
antenna can be a VERY good thing, helping you hear things you otherwise
might not have heard.
If you are a DX chaser, you can listen on your TX frequency when working
split. That can help a LOT when trying to find a place where your signal
might stand out from the competition. The P3 is also quite helpful in
the same way.
If you are a contester, you can use the second RX to search for
multipliers while you're CQing (not while transmitting though).
If you work VHF (or even 10M) and are looking for band openings, you can
monitor two frequencies (on the same band) at the same time, one in each
ear (or external loudspeaker), for example, one in the CW portion, the
other on SSB. Again, the P3 is also quite helpful in the same application.
I've used my 2nd RX in all but the last application.
