I think it is a sensible arrangement.  KX3 + a V/U HT will become a handy station from HF to V/U ready to deploy.

The KX3 will be able to contain the internal battery pack, roofing filter
module and ATU at the same time. If/when an internal transverter module is
developed, it would occupy the space that the internal ATU uses. So the only
either/or combo would be regarding those two units.
