If the chirp was in receive mode, check bulletin HW-101-32 at

One other comment I found said: "And if you do transmit with it everyone of
at least my generation who had a license back in the Heath Kit Days will
know what radio you are using. That little chirp chirp sound in CW mode was
unmistakable as the hallmark of the Heath Radios."

Another comment I found: "Things are much better. This morning I went
through the S-Meter coil alignment and zeroing procedures and there's no
longer any whistling and/or chirping when the RF Gain is maxed out."
