Larry,
I suspect this is due to the difference in filter band width. Since the SSB
filter is wider than the CW filter you will hear more band noise through the SSB
filter.
Try setting the CONFIG:SUB AF Setting to BALANCE. Once you have done that you
can use the SUB knob on the front panel to reduce the volume of the SUB by
turning it so the pointer is more to the left than to the right.
