Dan,
Please do not distribute instructions that directly contradict the
warning included in the User's Manual for every microHAM product.
While you may have been lucky to avoid a negative outcome, that can't
be guaranteed. Neither microHAM nor microHAM America, LLC (and I doubt
Elecraft) can be responsible for the results of failing to follow the
instructions. I have no doubt that the first time someone turns their
radio or interface into a "brick" by following an unapproved set of
third party instructions they will hold Elecraft and/or microHAM
responsible.
I've used the "work around" to update K3 and/or P3 through MK II and
experienced upload failures. While the failures were recoverable (I
did not "brick" any hardware), the chances of failure - even when done
by an someone who knows the system very well - are simply too great to
encourage uploading new firmware using any procedure or hardware other
than that approved by Elecraft.
