Sebastian,
Glad it worked out. I was suspecting the KEY-OUT transistor when I
suggested testing with no power applied to the K3.
So two things learned - Elecraft Support is superb and you can fix
many things yourself (with a little help).
An as a young technician an old mentor told me that in
troubleshooting, don't assume the worst. Most things that fail are
simple and simple to fix. Another tech I worked with taught me this
lesson in a different way. I always did well with logically looking
at the problem, but often he would find the problem quicker. He used
the look, feel, sniff method. Didn't take brains just giving good
attention to what often was obvious.
In Sebastian's case the KEY-OUT transistor was overloaded at some
point and shorted out. One has to be careful what they connect to
circuits like KEY-OUT that the current limits are not
exceeded. Keying a small relay is good insurance as a relay can
handle higher current or voltage with less risk.
Happy Holidays! Psst - Santa Wayne "KX3"
