[Elecraft] Rusting screws

Hello Gentleman,

I put this up in the past.  All screws in K3, P3 and KPA500 show signs of rusting after a few months usage in VR2.  I also requested that for this elite class radio equipment, ss screws should be just a standard provision.  In other words, I would not expect rusting screws in an over $2,000 radio.

Elecraft offers the SS screw as an option for K3 but the not the P3 and KPA500.  I would expect the cost of ss screws as a standard provision should be minimal and Elecraft simply saves the administration costs in handling rusting screws (like work for their parts department).

I have a number of Icom radios with age over 20 years showing NO sign of rusting screws.  Rusting screw is just making the elecraft radios less perfect in its elite class.  It will not give too much harm to the owner of Elecraft radios but simply annoying.

Whenever hams in Hong Kong ask me about Elecraft radios, I always remind them to beware of the rusting screws.  They always look at me with "O" mouth.

TNX & 73,

Johnny VR2XMC

Elecraft should just cost all equipment usiing the SS screws and get over it and move on.

The painted screws simply demean the appearance of the equipment and it looks pretty awful I reckon.

Enuff said..SS screws on all products PLEASE?

I agree and used the SS on the K3 kit because I knew that the rig would go
seaside and to Hawaii a few times.  Not available for the P3 or KPA500.

My suggestion is to simply send out ONLY SS screws (even if US$15 more) and
it becomes a non-issue.  All kits/builds, all metal screws, all stainless.
  Simpler to stock too.

Now, if Elecraft would offer a similar SS Screw option for both the P3 and
KPA500 (as well as the up and coming KAT500 and the KX3) then we'd all be on

  a winner.

How about it Wayne & Eric, we'd like SS screw kits for the P3, KPA500,
  KAT500 & KX3 please.
