I would not use them and would be disappointed if they couldn't be turned
off.  

If the purpose is to avoid transmitting on an illegal frequency, keep in
mind that the band edges are different for different classes of US licenses,
still different for other countries and still different for various
transmission modes. That's a LOT of markers.
