When there's a web URL given, the safe approach is to open your browser and
type the address in. That's what I did. 

The real danger is that clicking on a link may take you to a site that is
*not* the one shown or launch malware that is not obvious.

There is too much email spoofing going on these days, and I do not know 
of any preventive other than your own computing safety - again, do not 
ever click on a link that look suspicious, even if the email looks like 
it has come from a trusted source.

Just send such stuff to your junk email folder - if it later proves to 
be "official", then you might open the link, but not until it has been 
verified.
