What band? The drive required varies quite a bit from band to band. Example:
my KPA500 needs just 20 watts for 500 out on 40 meters, but a full 40 watts
for 500 out on 6 meters.

Interesting question.  When I first received the amp, it took 20/25 watts to
drive it to max with a 1:1 SWR.  Still 1:1 but now takes 40 watts to drive
it.  I don't think it's a problem but interested if someone can explain it
to me.
