Thanks, Don, for your help. Lyle, KK7P, answered off list and we figured it
out together. Your observations about U2 and U1 labeling were spot on! :-)
What was confusing me even more, I think, was that Elecraft actually gave me
an extra part (two of the aforementioned U2s). I've now constructed the
KDSP2 board, but I can't install it yet, because I need to order new control
board firmware. Mine is 1.09 and I need 2.10 or better, according to the
DSP board manual. Thanks again for your response!

Carl,
If you look closely at the 3 terminal regulator that is U2, you will see
that what you read as "78 MOSCT" is actually "78 M05" which is a proper
5 volt regulator - use it at U2.
You should have a 28 pin DIP with a piece of paper on the top with the
KDSP2 firmware level. Don't peel the paper off, just believe it is the
ATMEGA8L which is to be installed in the socket at U1.
