[Elecraft] K3 scan questions -- USB and SWL AM -- unsupported?

I'd like to scan SSB segments of a particular ham band with TAP SCAN so that
the rcvr stays muted until it hears a signal, particularly when working on
shack projects and I'm not to close to the rig. The K3 will stop on an SSB
signal but the transmssion isn't intelligible 'cause the freq it stops on is
either too high or low to be understood. Is there a setting I can adjust so
when it stops scanning, the voice transmission will be moderately
intelligible? Otherwise, I have to go over to the K3 and tune in the
transmission.

I have the various SWL bands in my memories. When I recall them, I have the
rig set so I can turn the RIT knob and the freq advances in the 5 kHz steps
just fine. When I TAP SCAN, tho, the K3 doesn't scan in the 5 kHz steps but
instead changes in freq steps by whatever the FINE/COARSE step is showing,
i.e. like when you turn the VFO knob.
