  Lee,

It will adjust to the pitch that you have set for the sidetone.
Hold the PITCH button and adjust it to something easy for your ears to hear.

You do have to get close to the proper tone before the auto-spot will work.
You may have to adjust the threshold - see the CWT and SPOT instructions 
in the manual.
