Hi Don,
I think it is a case of whatever works for an individual. I don't try
to pick hardware from the cups. I just shake out the approximate
number of screws, nuts or whatever I need for a particular operation
into my hand and place them on the table. Any excess go back in the
cup when I move on to another step. It works quite well for me. I
don't need to save up any egg crates prior to starting construction.
I may put more than one type of hardware or component in a cup if
there are only a few of that item in the kit. I just dump the
contents in my hand and pick out what I need and the rest go back in
the cup. I don't keep the cups that I am not using on the table.
They go on a shelve, out of the way. I can work neater that way.
When I have used the egg crate method, I usually manage to upset the
whole crate that way. I have learned from my mistakes.
