The KUSB uses a Prolific chipset and it has problems when using slower baud
rates and 2 stop bits. I experienced exactly the same behaviour with two
different adapters (both using Prolific chipsets, though not bought from
Elecraft) when I tested my K2 with KComm.
I believe the Keyspan uses an FTDI chipset which is somewhat better.
Therefore the solution is probably going to be to use the Keyspan. I did
find that the Prolific adapters sometimes work better by setting the serial
port settings to 1 stop bit, but the baud rate of the KIO2 is fixed at 4800
so that can't be changed.
