Dean, running the driver "flat out" or indeed the PA at full power
creates a high level of 3rd order IMD. If you run the K3 around 1/4
power the IMD on SSB transmit reduces by around 10 dB. It's not that the
K3 is particularly bad in this regard, almost all 12 Volt PA
transceivers are like it. My recommendation would be to opt for the 100
Watt PA and run into your linear at 15 ~ 25 Watts or so.

I presently have a K2 with 15 to 17 watts out. When I need QRO it runs
my AL-811H amp up to a few hundred watts so I have never needed the 100
watt finals.
I am thinking that I will be able to do the same thing with the K3 as
long as it has about the same output.
For those with the 10 watt model, it would be helpful to know what your
actual power out is.
