Ok, thanks Don, sorta what I figured that it was ok... 

Finished the rest of the tests of the keyer, sidetone, s-meter calibration
and the AGC level. I was able to get to 3.80 V without the suggested mod so
things are rolling along normally so far....

It's all back apart to continue with part II of the RF board build....

Thanks to all for the help and suggestions (i'll surely have more
questions!),
