I use 73 in e-mails too, but I use it like I use it on the air - as part of
a final salutation. When I expect to see more on the subject directed to me,
I don't us it just as I don't use it to end every transmission on the air. 

As the saying goes, "Civility Is The Lubricant Of a Healthy Society."
Traditions are also a part of a healthy society and it's worthwhile learning
and following them for just that reason.

internet forum
postings (such as on eHam), as well on e-mail lists like this one.

I figure if I can't say "73," meaning, of course "best regards," then 
perhaps I
