[Elecraft] What is the TMP cable 12" (E850339) for?

It sounds like you purchased a factory assembled K3 with the KRX3
Subreceiver and with the KRX3 auxiliary input connected to a BNC on the K3
rear panel. That TMP cable is provided for an alternate antenna input option
you can install that feeds the KRX3 auxiliary antenna input from the ANT1 or
ANT2 connector that is *not* being used by the K3. See "Auxiliary KRX3
Antenna Input (Optional)" in your KRX3 Manual - that's on page 25 of the Rev
E manual.

I'm surprised you don't hear some signals, especially around 10 MHz in the
daytime. Also you should hear broadcast band stations, even if you don't
have the general coverage filter option installed - at least strong BCB
stations near the "top" of the AM band.

Does the S8 noise disappear when you disconnect the antenna from the K3?
That would confirm you have the antenna input configured correctly in the
MENU to receive on ANT1.

-----Original Message-----

Just got my K3 delivered and 2 small manila envelopes were included - an
Allen wrench and the above referenced cable. What is the cable for?

On another note, since it will be a few more weeks until I have some
antennas outside, I connected a rolled up dipole (indoors) to ANT1 just to
listen a bit. All I hear is S-8 noise and NO signals. When I select ANT2,
the noise goes away. I hope it's the Faraday cage effect of the wire mesh
in the stucco walls doing that and nothing else...

Tnx,
