[Elecraft] [K3] Auto Shift/Width - Possible?

Pete,
I believe the Auto-Spot feature is the closest thing to what you are
looking for.
If you need to get more sophisticated than that, I would suggest you
connect the K3 to the soundcard input and use something like Spectrogram
or some other FFT based audio spectrum analyzer to give you a view of
the receive passband and the signals in it.
Normally, you should center the filter passband at your CW sidetone
(spot) frequency, and use the VFO to move the signal to that frequency.
Once you get close, auto-spot will move it 'right-on'.
A bit of practice with Spectrogram (or other) could give you a better
feel for the effects of the width and shift controls. You can download
version 5 of Spectrogram from Tom Hammond's website www.n0ss.net. Tom
has some setup information on his site as well. Try it and see if that
helps. If nothing else, it will give you some practice "training your
brain" to recognize tones a little better.
