Great news, Joe. 

It turns out that I didn't re-seat an inline connector properly, on the front-panel mother-daughterboard interface, while I was installing the KDVR3. 

All is well again.

PS: Oh, yes: I noticed that the AFX button turns ESSB on and off in the CONFIG: TX ESSB menu.  Interesting.
