[Elecraft] K3: Make Monitor level track AF level?

Randy:
I have just the opposite problem. With my 32 ohm headphones I have to crank
up the sidetone to 40 but down to 15 with the 8 ohm speaker. It wouldn't be
so bad if I didn't have to listen to the tone while adjusting. There's 2
problems with this method. If I want to change sidetone level while in QSO,
I miss words the other station is sending or have to pause my sending while
adjusting the level. Why must that tone be present? I know of no other rig
that does this. If I remove my headphones and start to call CQ, I blast the
entire house with my sidetone. I quickly remember that I forgot to turn it
down before removing my cans. So I push the sidetone button and blast
everyone again until I can get it cranked down. This is a very strange
system. If I wanted to hear the tone, I could just press the "Pitch" button!
Having the sidetone track with the AF gain is nice as long as it's also
independently adjustable but for some reason there are some ops who are
strongly opposed to this....Something to do with riding the AF gain for weak
signals etc.... Anyway. I would just like to be able to disable the tone
when adjusting the level.
