[Elecraft] T1 Antenna tuner

Hi all.  

 

Been playing around with my T1 and have a few questions and thoughts...

 

First, I think that it is the best of the automatice QRP tuners out there.   I bought mine ready-built, but I'm thinking of getting another as a kit so I can at least say that I've built it.

 

Now the questions-

 

1) I plan to use mine in the attic to tune a horizontal loop.  Do I need the 1:1 / 4:1 balun?

 

2) Has anyone thought about combining the T1 with the Buddipole...would it even be necessary...and would you again need the balun?  I could envision the T1 right at the center tee just like they use the triple-ratio balun now.

 

 

3) I would like to make a suggestion for the firmware.  Maybe after a tuning session, the system can be set to automatically send out the information.  (maybe turned on/off somehow if not in use otherwise)  I will be using my T1 up in the attic and can't get up there all the time.  A remote display/assessment of the situation would be great...especially via a little box with a PIC and LCD display.  I'm not sure how many others use the T1 in a more permanant setup but this might be something to think of.
