[Elecraft] K3 in SS SSB

I really don't like getting on SSB but the K3 makes it tolerable. Both K3s
gave me 1850 QSOs in 79 ARRL Sections (missed NL, darn it). The new
implementation of the Notch was VERY nice. Sunday afternoon draws lots of
carriers from QRMers and the notch just wiped them off the map with a quick
punch of the button. When you can continue 80/hr+ rates with a 30 over 9
carrier planted on you, you've found the perfect tool. The QRMers don't
realize that they are helping to keep the frequency clear for you because
they are generally only affect a direction pointed at me rather than at my
next contact. Very nice.

I had to run the DSP filter at 1.8 to 2.0 on 40 and 20 since those bands
were so crowded. Rather than adjust the filter width or skirts on each
contact, I found it much easier to adjust the RIT and leave the filter
alone. I have never used the optional I and II selection. Lots of guys
were off frequency by up to .5 kHz. I guess they were spinning the VFO and
didn't take time to zero in too much. My RIT knob will need replacing one
of these days though.

Thanks again to Elecraft because a K3 is the only way for me to survive 24
hours on SSB. ;-)
