[Elecraft] DSP Maximum Width

One of the open questions regarding the continued development of the K3 that has come up, has been the maximum width of the DSP. The K3 appears to be effectively limited to about 4.3 khz, as opposed to +6khz in some of the other radios that many of us have access to. Some have express concern that this is a limiting factor, at least to some extent, in some modes of use. Is the current limit strictly a matter of the firmware configuration for the DSP, or is the hardware itself the limiting factor? If the former, are there any plans to extend the width out, to say, 6khz?

In a radio as flexible and configurable as the K3, I would argue that having the ability to go at least out to 6khz, independent of mode, would allow the users another area in which to tailor the radio to fit their operating practice. I would argue that the K3's configurability, even more than it's raw performance, is what has attracted more and more of us to it. Are there any updates about increasing the maximum effective width of the DSP?
