For anyone considering trying QRP(p) operation, don't be put off by
tales of super antennas. Yes, a good antenna always helps, and if you
have an unusually good setup, by all means take advantage of it. But
surprising results can be had with strictly average setups. This
weekend, I achieved a new personal best miles-per-watt record (Oregon
to Ohio, about 21510 miles/watt) with my K3 on 30m at 100mW using my
Butternut HF6V antenna (ground mounted with 16 short radials.) I know
that's nowhere near any real records, but for casual QRP-ing that
involved nothing more than turning the power knob down, it was a kick.
