I also cannot duplicate this on #2603,  I run the audio at 12 all the time,
if I set it at 9 or below I have almost no audio out.  I use amplified 
speakers.
Audio at 12, RF also about 12. 
The monitor at 50,  no thumps.  monitor at 12 no thumps, the background
atmospheric noise is louder than the monitor at 12 and makes it sound
perhaps strange between cw characters,  but no thumps.  Stock here also 
with no mods.
