One of the Ten Tec receiver kits is a dual conversion superhet with digital
readout and memories covering 100 kHz to 30 MHz for just under $200 - about
twice the price of their 1253 regen at $90:

with a YouTube video about it produced by Ten Tec at:

I don't have personal experience with either kit, but my contacts with Ten
Tec have always been positive. If I were in the market for such a kit I'd
not hesitate to buy one.

Alan, look at the Ten Tec kits - they have a few receivers and their kits
are top notch. They're regens so you know they're simple!
Good luck
