Good Evening,
   This week has finally brought summer to Oregon.  And, in typical fashion, it did not come in half measures.  Even on the mountain temperatures got into the mid 90s.  Luckily things will get back to normal again in a day or so.  The high today was predicted to be 84 degrees.  For tomorrow the forecast is for 62.  It will seem chilly.  I went for a walk earlier today exploring the 16 acres of woods on the other side of the road.  Foxgloves are blooming now as well as acres of daisies.  There is a haze to the air from all the pollen flitting about.  And, speaking of flitting, the hummingbirds are here in abundance.  I have estimated (how can one accurately count?) twenty at the feeder at one time.  Identifying the males is simple: they flash their tails in displays of assumed dominance.  The females just get on with things and ignore the males.  Seems like they are not too different from humans ;)  
   Propagation on twenty meters has been getting a little better all week.  Early on my skeds were cut short due to high QSB on the other end.  Summer storms were also causing some crashes in the distance.  Here, though, the worst is fire danger and heat.  But, once the roof is no longer in direct sun the interior temperatures drop quickly.  By the way, there is a sunspot on the sun and it is in a good position to hit us with a flare.  It is a medium active spot so a CME is not improbable.  That should liven things up a bit.  I do not expect tomorrow's nets will gain many check ins because so many people are out of town on vacation.  Yesterday, as I drove to Hillsboro the westbound lane of highway 26 (to Seaside and Astoria) was a parking lot.  Three hours later this was still the case.  From Hillsboro to Manning I was in first gear or at a dead stop.  The turn off to Buxton was a welcome site.  Many towns cannot afford fireworks shows this year so many people went to Seaside for their show.  It is also twenty degrees cooler on the coast!
