[Elecraft] VCO CAL - a fix for audio gaps?

Yesterday I went to 18 MHz SSB to work K5D - not. There were some periodic
real quiet audio gaps in the 17M band. Hmmm? When I switched from the 2.7
filter to my 2.1 the gaps disappeared, and switching to CW mode also filled
the band with sigs. If allowed to warm up some, the receiver problem went
away in SSB mode.
E-mailed Gary at Elecraft Support for suggestions. Within only 10 min he
responded that I should do a VCO CAL (Manual, p. 49), and check to see if I
had the mod resistors added to my KSYN3 boards. I did the CAL to both
receivers and all was well again. Still ok today. Not sure why but the
procedure worked for me. Still need to check for the resistor mods, but they
are likely there as the rig was just back to the factory a month ago for a
tune-up.
No where else but with Elecraft have I found such good support and helpful
folks 100% of the time. Thank you Gary.
