[Elecraft] Softrock as K3 Panadaptor: Buffer Amp Needed?

I've seen differing views on the need to use a buffer amp. in this application.  Has anyone out there used Softrock successfully without it?  Did you have to take any special precautions to make it work properly?  I'm intending to use a 32.768 MHz /4 crystal.
