I do not don't recommend it, although it might work. But it will heat up 
the battery and you must avoid by all means that solder flows around the 
edge of the battery and shortens it. When I once tried it the coin cell 
exploded in my fingers and since that time I know what tinnitus is. 

You might find the leaded cmos battery as a spare part or maybe you have a 
dealer around who has the equipment to weld leads to a coin cell. (we have 
such a dealer 30km away).
Another possibility: maybe you have enough room to insert a battery holder 
somewhere in the computer?
