Graham,

BUT - the K3 "RF Gain" control ONLY controls the IF gain - it does not 
reduce the gain of the receiver front end - in that respect, the K3 is 
similar to those other receivers that you referred to..  The preamp and 
attenuator DO change the front end gain.
