The ARRL 160 contest brought out a lot of strong stations,
some of whom weren't hearing very well.  There were cluster spots
coming in from DX that couldn't get the attention of some of the
stateside CQ'ers.  I spotted one W8 who plopped right on top of
KH6ZM and called CQ.  (I later worked Max up the band).

There seem to be orders of magnitude differences of hearing ability
among DX'ers on Top Band.
