Good Evening,
Conditions were not as good on twenty meters this week. Some QSB and noise levels were higher. Forty meters was also tough for me to make contacts during the evening hours. But we can always hope. We may have passed solar minimum but we are only a couple weeks away from having the quietest year on the sun in a century. 76% of the days this year have been spotless.
The weather forecast has been revised every day lately. At first I was to receive four days of snow. That was replaced by a few days of sun and then later by four days of sun. It has been very nice to have so much dry weather with sunny skies. It is chilly but it is only dropping to 16 degrees F which is barely cold enough to put on gloves :) The pipes don't start to freeze here in Oregon until about 10 below. They actually run plumbing a few inches under the grass and inside exterior walls! I was shocked when I moved here from Wisconsin. There the frost line can go below 6 feet deep so all plumbing is run inside of interior walls and buried ten feet below the grass.
On the way home on Monday I was surprised to see four elk on the road only a short way above Buxton. Hunters had been forcing them lower down the mountain so they took refuge very close to town. They had great cover, a good food supply, and only a short walk to obtain water. They were in elk heaven if you discount the hunters driving by ;) They ran off into thick reprod so they would be safe even if I would have been hunting them. They are surprisingly large when you see them from a range of ten feet. Maybe one day they will be back up here when the neighboring clearcuts grow thick again. Then I will see them grazing in my front yard.
Please join us tomorrow evening.
