[Elecraft] KX1 40m band not working

Hello all, first post to the list.

Unfortunately it's due to a problem with my just-built KX1. I had no trouble building it... the phase 1 and 2 tests went fine. But after completing the assembly in the last part and putting it in it's case, I powered it up and got a very loud buzz through the headphones, and saw some weirdness with the display... I turned it off and removed it from the case and powered it back up - and it seemed to be ok, but now I cannot hear the signal from my other rig in the 40m band. I hear a normal sounding noise floor, and the occasional birdie, but not the CW. 20m seems just fine.

I have not tried to do the transmit tests yet. 

Does anyone have any suggestions before I give elecraft a call? I really appreciate any help! I'm been really excited about getting this thing finished and working, so as you can imagine I'm pretty bummed out. Thanks again...
