Good Evening,
Once again 40 meters had good signals but even louder QRN. My noise level was S5 or better for most of the net. 20 meters was quieter and had some interesting contacts with TF3KX and VK4TJ on the top of the list. I wish there was some way to kill some of the QRN. My ears are still ringing and I've been off the air for almost an hour! I went for a walk and saw Venus in the western sky but the dust from the local volcano (Aleutians) is causing the sky to be less than clear preventing me from finding either Mars or Mercury. Even with binoculars or my telescope I have had no luck for the past week. Gives me something to do each day at sunset however. Venus, Jupiter, and the moon have been keeping me company as well as the bats who whir by my head eating the bugs I attract.
On Tuesday I lost the OS on my main computer which has all of the ECN data. I ghosted the drive the next day but could not get it to boot either. I thought the hard drive was bad but I found it was simply the OS dying on me. It took me some time but I now have all of the applications I need for ECN work up and running again. There was no loss of data simply a loss of time. I had to move to another computer and install all of the applications I use from install files but I have been unable to download Zone Alarm or Avast. I may need to drive into town to find a faster Internet connection to get those applications. I did not have the install files for either of them. If I am lucky I could find them at a store but I do not think they are available in Washington County. Luckily the computer I've moved to has them both installed so I don't need to worry too much about malware finding a home on this box. My worst fear was losing the script to install Star Office. But I had that backed up in three places. Redundancy is sometimes a good thing ;)

There, an hour and a half after the end of the second net and my ears are not ringing so badly. A good night's rest will get them ready for tomorrow morning's sked. Now to do something about my stiff hands. Banging away at the roof and the woodpile is taking its toll. I think the winter months will be a nice respite from all this work ;) I can listen to the rain falling on my new roof and feel the heat from all the wood I've collected while I am working at the bench and computer. Sam and I will be cozy and warm this winter!
If there are any errors in the above lists please email me with the corrections. Now I get to finish my dishes and get ready for the week. Thank you for the nets.
Until next week stay well,
73,
Kevin. KD5ONS (Net Control Operator 5th Class)
