Haines,
To adjust the audio gain, you set the K3 into TX TEST mode (hold the
MODE^ button), not TUNE. TX TEST allows you to adjust the transmit
controls without actually transmitting RF.
Check to be certain your soundcard is actually producing audio - check
the soundcard controls in your computer as well as the input gain
control in the K3. Turn the MONitor volume up and you should hear the
tones in the K3 speaker. Be certain the K3 MIC SEL menu item is set for
the input that you actually have the audio plugged into (LINE IN, Front
panel mic jack, or Rear panel mic jack).
The K3 TUNE button places the K3 into CW transmit state and emits RF at
the level preset in the menu. It is entirely different than TX TEST.
On your filter problem - read the manual again and be certain your
filters are set up correctly. You must select the 2.7/2.8 kHz filter
for data transmit. On receive you may use any roofing filter and DSP
combination that you choose. The waterfall will only show those signals
that pass through to the audio, so even if you have the 2.7/2.8 roofing
filter selected if your DSP filtering (width/shift or Hi-Cut/Lo-Cut
knobs) is set for a narrow passband, that is all that will show up on
the waterfall display. I like my DSP filtering set for a 400 Hz width
with a center frequency of 1.50 kHz, so I tune near the desired signal
with the VFO knob and then click on it in the waterfall display to tune
precisely - YMMV, If you desire something different, you may set the
values you prefer, the K3 allows you to do that.
